Car Seats Made Easy One of the most important decisions that you’re going to have to make as a parent today is which car seat you’re going to choose for your child. Today’s market has literally hundreds of different types of car seats for you to choose from in a wide variety of colors, styles, and patterns. Luckily enough, manufacturers are constantly improving on their designs, both in the safety they provide and their appearance. The important thing is to find the seat that has the best fit for your child and the right fit for your vehicle. Needless to say, you’re also going to want to find one that’s going to fit into your budget. They can be broken down into about four different categories. The first is the rear facing infant seat. These are made for children from birth up to approximately 20 pounds and about 26 inches. Infant car seats come with a handle that will raise and lower to make moving baby convenient for a new parent. They allow parents to remove the seat from the base in the car and carry the baby in the seat without having to take him or her out of the seat itself. You can also purchase additional bases if you own more than one car, or want one for grandmom or granddad. This is one of the safest ways to transport infants. Next in line comes the convertible car seat. Convertibles can be used in the rear-facing position for infants, and later be used face forward once the weight and age requirements are met for the rear-facing stage. These are made for children from birth up to about 40 pounds. The third is the booster seat. Booster seats with 5 point harness systems are best and can be used for children from 20-40 pounds. Booster seats are used with your vehicle’s seat belts and are made to “boost” your child up so that the lap and shoulder belts fit the right way. Finally, there is the belt positioning booster. A belt positioning booster is made for children who have outgrown their seat’s height and weight limits. These come in both high back and backless types and are made to be used until a child reaches 80 pounds, 8 years of age or stand 4 feet 9 inches tall. Your next question might be which type of seat is going to be the safest for your child and still show your unique sense of style as well as personality. One of the more popular manufacturer’s is Britax. You can find a Britax car seat that will fit almost anyone’s budget and Britax offers a huge selection of colors and styles. Britax offers consumers seats in striped and geometric patterns, pretty pastel and floral patterns, solid pinks, blues, and tans, as well as zebra and “cowmooflage” for you more adventuresome types. Wow, what a variety! If you’re looking for something more understated, they also have basic black available. Best of all, all Britax car seats meet or exceed federal safety standards too. So now you’ve figured out which one you want to buy for your newest family member, but still aren’t happy with your fashion choices. You might want to consider purchasing a car seat cover. Car seat covers fit over the existing manufacturer’s seat padding and serve the dual purpose of not only protecting your little one from the wind, cold and damp weather, but also brings new life or perhaps just a touch of fun that may be a bit on the boring side. Car seat covers can be purchased for relatively little and are available in all types of patterns and fabrics. They are also easy to use. All you do is slip most covers over the top and your little angel is riding in comfort and style. Some people may even choose to make their own cover, saving themselves a bit of money and giving them a more personal touch. Store bought or homemade, they make great baby shower gifts too!
